Acknowledgement of Country

Makespace Australia acknowledges the Turrbal and Jagera people as the traditional custodians of Meeanjin (Brisbane).

The Turrbal and Jagera people share a deep connection to the land, sea and waterways. Meeanjin translates to the place of blue water lilies. Our work is in Bikenba (New Farm), its name meaning a place of the land tortoise. The Maiwar River (Brisbane River) stretches along Bikenba and surrounding Meeanjin suburbs. Abundant in marine life, the Maiwar River provided food, water and a place of gathering for the Turrbal and Jagera people.

We pay our respects to Elders past and present and acknowledge the work and legacy in caring for Country. We acknowledge the gravity of work needed to be done to undo the continuing impacts of colonisation and acknowledge that Aboriginal sovereignty has never been ceded.
